About CAP

Most women and couples want to plan the time and spacing of their childbearing. Yet every year almost half of all pregnancies are unintended.

What is CAP?
The Contraceptive Action Plan (CAP) is a step-by-step process for strengthening healthcare delivery systems to enhance contraceptive services.

Who is CAP for?
Healthcare agencies and professionals who want to contribute to improving birth outcomes and reducing rates of unintended pregnancy and abortion by enhancing access to accurate and unbiased information about all FDA-approved birth control methods and providing women with an opportunity to be provided their method of choice by a trained healthcare provider.

Why implement CAP?
CAP uses a systematic approach to support to healthcare providers in facilitating improvements. The CAP package contains all the tools and training resources necessary to assess current capacity, identify gaps in care, and build on unique strengths to implement or enhance contraceptive services in any healthcare setting. This includes e-Learning modules for all staff levels, implementation tools, job aids, and a clinician mentoring toolkit.

How to implement CAP?
CAI is a leading capacity building and training organization with almost 40 years’ experience in the field of reproductive health. Our training and technical assistance specialists are available to provide practice facilitation coaching to healthcare teams in leveraging their own systems to guide change and plan strategies for improving the quality of contraceptive care.
